This year the Female Flame-Off raised $2,645.00 for a local organization, the Texas Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association.
What is TOFGA? TOFGA stands for "Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association". It is a state-wide organization of about 600 members. It was established in 1992 as a 501(c)(3) corporation with the original name of "Texas Organic Growers Association". A few years ago it changed to its current name to respond to the interest of Master Gardeners and organic garden clubs.
TOFGA is a publicly supported, non-profit association whose members include ranchers, farmers, commercial plant growers, retailers, wholesalers, processors, distributors, consumers, and anyone desiring to support the organic industry in Texas. Our primary mission is to promote organic agriculture as a sustainable systems approach in the production of food and fiber - a system that protects human and animal health, and preserves the environment.
TOFGA hosts several New Farmers Workshops aroung the state each year. Members and non-members are always welcome to attend these workshops.
TOFGA attends the annual Fredericksburg Renewable Energy Conference and attends several Eco-Fairs around the state sharing information about organic food production and marketing.
TOFGA's most exciting annual event is the "Texas Conference on Organic Production Systems" (TCOOPS). Hundreds of people around the state attend. TOFGA brings in dozens of speakers and hosts a trade show, banquet, a giant bookstore and lots of networking opportunities.
The strength of organic producers resides in their ability to network and share production knowledge. To that end, TOFGA is growing its list of committed TOFGA members who have a passion for reaching out and sharing organic production knowledge within their respective counties.
TOFGA is yet a volunteer organization and depends heavily on the time devoted by our valuable members to help carry out its mission of service.
TOFGA produces a quarterly newsletter for its members titled "TOFGA TODAY".
Membership dues, donations and conference sponsorships assist TOFGA in bringing these events to organic producers around the state. As we grow, more important services will be provided our members and friends. Please consider supporting organic, sustainably grown food in Texas by joining TOFGA today!
